چکیده

Unstable pelvic ring disruptions are frequently associated with hemodynamic instability. Although the source of hemorrhage can be from multiple sites, the severity and type of pelvic disruption strongly correlates with retroperitoneal blood loss. Pelvic stabilization in the early posttraumatic phase is reported to provide an effective means of controlling this retroperitoneal hemorrhage. Pelvic circumferential compression with a bed sheet has been recommended for emergent stabilization of unstable pelvic fractures in hemodynamically unstable patients. More recently, pelvic circumferential compression devices (PCCDs) have become commercially available for time-saving, provisional stabilization. This report describes a complication associated with the use of a PCCD for a patient with an unstable pelvic ring injury and associated Morel-Lavallee lesion.

Measurements of the Exerted Pressure by Pelvic Circumferential Compression Devices

BACKGROUND Data on the efficacy and safety of non-invasive Pelvic Circumferential Compression Devices (PCCDs) is limited. Tissue damage may occur if a continuous pressure on the skin exceeding 9.3 kPa is sustained for more than two or three hours. The aim of this study was to gain insight into the pressure build-up at the interface, by measuring the PCCD-induced pressure when applying pulling f...

Emergent stabilization of pelvic ring injuries by controlled circumferential compression: a clinical trial.

BACKGROUND Pelvic ring injuries are associated with a high incidence of mortality mainly due to retroperitoneal hemorrhage. Early stabilization is an integral part of hemorrhage control. Temporary stabilization can be provided by a pelvic sheet, sling, or an inflatable garment. However, these devices lack control of the applied circumferential compression. We evaluated a pelvic circumferential ...

AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF EXTRARENAL MALIGNANT RHABDOID TUMOR OF SOFT TISSUE: A CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

Extra renal extra cranial malignant rhobdoid tumors (MRT) are rare, frequently lethal and affect mostly children. No definite treatment has been made and the role of radiation therapy is poorly defined. This report explains a 14 year old girl with MRT in her neck soft tissue. She is alive with no evidence of disease 18 months after diagnosis. Through the experience with this case, we suggested...
